GoodTask 8.0 Update - Matrix View

Matrix View

A new Matrix View has been added. You can use it on any list, just like other views.

  • Tasks are displayed across the four quadrants of the matrix.
  • You can create multiple Types, which are fully customizable.
  • On iOS, use the three-dot More button at the top right to switch between types. From this menu, you can also access the Matrix View Settings page directly. (Alternatively, go to Settings > General > Matrix View.) On Mac, use the View Bar button at the top to switch between types. Choosing Matrix View will open up menu for all your types.

For each Type:

  • You can set a title and color for each quadrant.
  • Each quadrant can have its own filters:
  • Date Filter: Today, Tomorrow, Overdue, Scheduled, Undated
    • Multiple options can be selected
    • Invert option available which excludes selected filters
  • Priority Filter
  • List Filter
  • Tag Filter
  • If a quadrant has a single, simple filter, the title and color will follow that filter automatically.
  • You can drag and drop tasks to update their values accordingly.
  • Matrix View can be set as the Open View for the widget. (Re-add the widget if it doesn’t appear.)
  • You can also add Matrix View to your Favorites.

Other Improvements

  • Date Board: New Options

    • No Due Date : Last / First
    • Later : Show / Hide
  • Better refreshing today widgets when date changes

  • Minor bug fixes

As a start, LOVE THE MATRIX VIEW! Great addition.

I tried to configure a new Matrix View but could not find a way to add a custom list to the Matrix as a quadrant.

Specifically, I have a list called Two Days but cannot find a way to add / make it the bottom left quadrant.

Is this possible and, if not, can you add it the list for future consideration?

Thank you!

Hi @Joel, thanks for the feedback.

You can select Reminders lists but can't select Smart Lists. I'll keep it on the list to consider. Thanks!

Appreciate the response.

Just to be clear, I can select the default Reminders App list but not any Custom / Smart Lists that I create. Is this correct?

Thank you.

Yes, that’s correct for list filter. Thanks!

Excellent and thank you.

Would be great to be able to add Smart Lists, hopefully it will work its way up the list (pun intended)!

Thank you.

Video on YouTube is added.

It would be useful to have a way to overrule the setting „Overdue tasks / on current date” to allow for separation between overdue and today even if this setting is desired for other views.

I would like to have an ability to set lists for example like:

  • all overdue
  • all overdue except due today
  • overdue only from today (no overdue from previous days, even if mentioned „overdue tasks” is set to „on current date”)
  • overdue only of today (like above) + non-overdue today

Thanks for the feedback. I’ll keep it on the list to consider.

Thanks for Matrix View! It is brilliant by default – the importance/urgency quadrant is tried and true and it is fantastic to be able to use it every day. And the customisability means the potential is endless. A wonderful and unexpected improvement to the app.

What I still don't understand is how to enter matrix view! It is not, for example, listed under the "View" menu!

Hi @odysseus , you can check view bar on top tool bar (on mac) and you’ll see an arrow on the left. By clicking it, you can select a view to move directly to the matrix view. I’ll check the menu bar status. Thanks!

Love the new Matrix view. Excellent job. One request, however. Could you please make the Matrix view checkboxes for iOS or iPadOS active and clickable, as they are in GoodTask for macOS? Thank you.

Hi @TomC , thanks for the feedback. I’ll keep it on the list to consider. Thanks!

Ya have same concern as Macie with overdue

Fan.tas.tic!
GoodTask keeps amazing me with these intelligent system additions, allowing users ever more ways to swiftly build their own "systems intelligence", while keeping things tight!

One block (problem/question) I ran into:
it seems there is no way – like in the list view – to make a quadrant list "untagged" items.
Selecting tag as criterion, but not selecting any tag seems equal to "all items" (unfiltered). On the other hand, there seems no 'positive' selector for "no tags" as criterion (as in system settings for list view).
Is this missing, possibly?
Or am I missing something here?

TIA & keep up the excellent work!

Hi @lerone , thanks for the feedback.

Currently you can select all tags and choose 'Invert' to show tasks without selected tags. I'll check and will see if 'No Tags' option is possible. Thanks!

Thx, appreciate the follow up!

I can report: selcting all (in whichever way), and then checking invert leads to all tags displayed (including those w/ different, singular/multiple tags). That is at least what I see on desktop version.

Hi @lerone , thanks for the feedback.

When you check 'All', it deselects all the tags and 'Invert' option doesn't do anything. I'll check if this needs to be improved.

If you click each tags and then check 'Invert', it should only show tasks without those selected tags.

Thanks!

thanks, appreciated - that helped!

Any further option is welcomed, and would help in scenarios like mine w/ more extensive tag-lists to be clicked.

TIA & best!
