Hi there,
Every time I open GoodTask on my Mac, the app freezes with the spinning circle and never loads. It still works fine on my iPhone, but it will not open on my Mac at all.
I’m using a MacBook Pro M4 with 25 GB of memory running macOS Tahoe 26.1. All my tasks and routines are in GoodTask, so I’m hesitant to delete and reinstall the app without guidance.
What steps can I take to resolve this issue without risking my data?
Thank you.
Thanks for using GoodTask.
Since the data is read from Reminders app's database, re-installing the app should not affect anything to the data you have. If you're having issues, please try re-installing the app and see how it goes. (And a device restart) If the issue persists, please let me know. Thanks!
Hi there,
Thanks for the response. Before I reinstall the app, I need clarification on something important.
My data may sync through Reminders, but all of my tags, folders, smart lists, and organization rules are built inside GoodTask itself. The last time I removed the app, these did not restore automatically, and the structure I set up was lost.
Can you confirm whether deleting and reinstalling GoodTask will preserve:
my tags
my folders
my smart lists
any custom settings or organizational structure
I want to make sure none of that resets before I proceed.
Thank you, please advise.
The settings that's used in GoodTask app is stored in iCloud Drive/GoodTask folder. You can check it through Finder to see the files. These are synced through iCloud and since you use the iPhone app too, you can check that they're synced through multiple devices.
If it does, re-installing should preserve all the data as it shows in other devices.
Thanks!
Hello,
I’m following up regarding the issue I previously contacted you about.
I followed the troubleshooting steps you recommended, including reinstalling the app. Initially, GoodTask worked normally, but after some time the same issue returned. When I open the app now, it becomes unresponsive and shows the spinning rainbow circle indefinitely.
So while the steps helped temporarily, the problem was not resolved and is still occurring.
Please let me know what the next steps are to permanently fix this issue. If you need any additional information, logs, or details about my setup, I’m happy to provide them.
Thank you for your assistance.
Best regards,
Rachel
Thanks for the feedback.
Would you try checking off some lists inside Settings > Lists and see if it changes anything? If you don't have enormous database but the lag is happening, the issue could be from some list.
Before doing it, I recommend turning off 'Settings > Automatic Preferences Sync' to keep the settings as is.
If you find any specific list that's causing the issue, you may make a new Reminders list and move the tasks to that list and keep the list with issue unchecked.
Hope it helps. Thanks!
