Hi there,
Every time I open GoodTask on my Mac, the app freezes with the spinning circle and never loads. It still works fine on my iPhone, but it will not open on my Mac at all.
I’m using a MacBook Pro M4 with 25 GB of memory running macOS Tahoe 26.1. All my tasks and routines are in GoodTask, so I’m hesitant to delete and reinstall the app without guidance.
What steps can I take to resolve this issue without risking my data?
Thank you.
Thanks for using GoodTask.
Since the data is read from Reminders app's database, re-installing the app should not affect anything to the data you have. If you're having issues, please try re-installing the app and see how it goes. (And a device restart) If the issue persists, please let me know. Thanks!
Hi there,
Thanks for the response. Before I reinstall the app, I need clarification on something important.
My data may sync through Reminders, but all of my tags, folders, smart lists, and organization rules are built inside GoodTask itself. The last time I removed the app, these did not restore automatically, and the structure I set up was lost.
Can you confirm whether deleting and reinstalling GoodTask will preserve:
my tags
my folders
my smart lists
any custom settings or organizational structure
I want to make sure none of that resets before I proceed.
Thank you, please advise.
The settings that's used in GoodTask app is stored in iCloud Drive/GoodTask folder. You can check it through Finder to see the files. These are synced through iCloud and since you use the iPhone app too, you can check that they're synced through multiple devices.
If it does, re-installing should preserve all the data as it shows in other devices.
Thanks!
Hello,
I’m following up regarding the issue I previously contacted you about.
I followed the troubleshooting steps you recommended, including reinstalling the app. Initially, GoodTask worked normally, but after some time the same issue returned. When I open the app now, it becomes unresponsive and shows the spinning rainbow circle indefinitely.
So while the steps helped temporarily, the problem was not resolved and is still occurring.
Please let me know what the next steps are to permanently fix this issue. If you need any additional information, logs, or details about my setup, I’m happy to provide them.
Thank you for your assistance.
Best regards,
Rachel
Thanks for the feedback.
Would you try checking off some lists inside Settings > Lists and see if it changes anything? If you don't have enormous database but the lag is happening, the issue could be from some list.
Before doing it, I recommend turning off 'Settings > Automatic Preferences Sync' to keep the settings as is.
If you find any specific list that's causing the issue, you may make a new Reminders list and move the tasks to that list and keep the list with issue unchecked.
Hope it helps. Thanks!
Hello,
Thanks for getting back to me. Unfortunately, I’m unable to try any of the suggested steps because I cannot access the app at all.
When I open GoodTask, it immediately freezes on the spinning rainbow cursor. I cannot navigate into Settings, interact with lists, or even close the app normally. I have to force close it by switching to another app. Once stuck, the app is completely unresponsive.
I have already reinstalled the app once, which did not resolve the issue. This makes it impossible to troubleshoot from within the app as suggested.
This is happening consistently, and I’m using the paid Mac version. Please advise on next steps or whether this is a known issue, as the app is currently unusable on my system.
Thank you,
Rachel
Thanks for the feedback. It’s not a known issue. Normally it should work well. Would you try resetting the app by following below?
-
Close the app completely.
-
Delete Preferences files
- Open Finder
- On top menu, choose 'Go > Go to folder..'
- Copy below and move to the folder
~/Library/Containers/com.hahainteractive.GoodTask3Mac/Data/Library/Preferences
- Delete com.hahainteractive.GoodTask3Mac.plist
- Re-open the app
Thanks!
Hello,
I followed your reset instructions exactly, including force quitting the app and deleting the preferences file.
After doing this, GoodTask will now not open at all. The app fails to launch entirely. I’ve also already tried reinstalling previously, which did not resolve the issue.
At this point, the app is completely unusable on my Mac. Since this is the paid Mac version, I need guidance on a proper fix, confirmation of any macOS compatibility issues, or information on refund options if this cannot be resolved.
Please advise on next steps.
Thank you,
Rachel
If the app is not opening, try deleting the app, restart the device and reinstall the app and see how it goes. If the issue persists, please share a screen recording to contact@hahaint.com Thanks!
