When I add a new task how do I set the options so that it appears at the top of the list instead of the bottom ? This would keep me from having to scroll down a long list and moving the new task to the top.

This depends on 'Sort Options' you're using. If you set 'Creation Time - Reverse' rather than 'Creation Time', you'll get what you want.
