New user running Into a host of questions

I am a SetApp member so installed on my Mac's from there and then installed on my iOS devices from the App store - but it is asking me to PAY, do I have to pay separately for iOS and if so, I assume one fee will cover my iPhone and iPad?

Separately from that I am trying to change the headlines on each of the 4 categories in the Matrix view from the current "Urgent,Important", "Urgent, Unimportant", etc. - but am not finding how to do that. Chat GPT keeps telling me to go to a menu that does not seem to exist. And finally - can I add yet another section to the Matrix and if so - how?

Ultimately my goal is to have Good Task show the following - so if there is a better way than the Matrix, let me know.

Section 1) TODAY - would show anything on my calendar today at the top of the section and then ANY TODAY (or past due) To Do Tasks and subtasks under the calendar items in priority order

Section 2) NEXT 3 DAYS - would show the same as in 1, but just calendar events and items do over the next 3 days again with calendar items at the top and then in priority order

Section 3) LONG TERM tasks or Undated miscellaneous tasks in priority order

Section 4) PROJECTS - this will include larger projects with Tasks and Subtasks that are largely in the IDEAS stage and have not yet been scheduled for any specific time - but these could have priorities assigned to them and I would want priority items to the top.

Hi @Steve_Ganz , thanks for using GoodTask.

Unfortunately Setapp is only available on Mac version of the app. Adding it on iOS version has been considered but it adds too much additional things to non-Setapp users so it couldn't be added. I hope you understand. If you find the app useful on Mac, getting it on iOS is done with one time purchase so you may want to consider it.

For Matrix view you've described, I recommend making smart lists for each first. If you have smart lists that fit your needs, you can bring it in into each quadrant. You can open Settings > General > Matrix View and then check the types. You can add your own type or edit existing ones. On each type, you can edit title, color and filters. Smart list filter is inside List filter.

Thanks!

I am just not getting there - I have built my Smart list, but don't really see how to bring it into the matrix. Here is the screenshot from when I go to General and Matrix view.

By chance if I paid someone $50 to help me set this up, could we do a quick screenshare and you walk me through it?

You can do it one by one and it should be easy.

  1. Open Settings > General > Matrix View
  2. Select Type you want to use and click 'Edit'.
  3. Each quadrant can be edited on that page. With all other filters turned off, choose 'Edit' for 'List'
  4. Check 'Smart List' on top right and choose smart list you want to use on that quadrant.
  5. Choose 'Done' on all pages and select the type on the matrix view.

Thanks!

I am sorry that I am just not getting this - but I would like to - can you check it this 2 min video and give me any pointers?

Thanks for detail explanation.

  • Currently you're on 'Board View'. GoodTask provides multiple types of views so you can check your tasks in various ways. 'Board View' is available through 4 types (Date, Priority, List & Tags). You can change these views through 'View bar' on top. (There are also List View, Calendar View, Matrix View, Now View)

  • Board Views can be customized but has its own limits. You can't adjust each column as you'd like. The options you have can be set in Settings > General > Board View.

  • You can use 'Matrix View' which shows 4 quadrants on a view. On that view, you can set filters or choose smart lists to show on each quadrant.

Checking User Guide manual will help you understand how the app works. Hope it helps. Thanks!
