Notification when you are in a certain place

Today, I tried location-based notifications for the first time. However, when I arrived at the specified location, the notification didn’t come through. I realized this might be due to a setting that only allows location access while the app is in use.

I tried changing the settings to allow constant location access, but I couldn’t find such an option. I also checked the settings in the Goodtask app, but I didn’t find a function for always-on location access there either.

Could you please let me know how to grant the app permission for constant location access or configure it so that notifications come through even when it’s not open?

Hi @FAnraqo , thanks for using GoodTask.

Normally location based alerts should work with the privacy settings with 'While app is in use'.

You may check below settings to see if it's set properly.

Settings app > Privacy & Security > Location Services > System Services > Alerts & Shortcuts Automations

Make sure it's turned on and also wifi and bluetooth should not be turned off.

If settings are all set properly but doesn't work, try restarting the device.

Thanks!

Thank you for your response! However, I still have a question. When I set up a notification to trigger upon arriving at a specific location, it didn’t come through until I opened the app. This is probably due to a setting that only allows location access when the app is in use.

I would like the notifications to come through without having to open the app — meaning a setting that allows continuous location access, even when the phone is locked. Is it possible to set up the app this way?

What do you mean by opening the app? Notification should come in even if the app is not opened. Do you mean that it fires after you open the app?

When I set up a notification to trigger upon arriving at a specific location, I arrived there and stayed for about 10 minutes, but the notification didn’t come through. However, as soon as I opened the Goodtask app, the notification appeared.

I would like to set up the notifications so that they come through without needing to open the Goodtask app.

Normally it should. Please check above settings and also make sure Background App Refresh is not turned off. Also I recommend not force closing the app on app switcher (swipe up on the screen that shows all opened apps).

Where can I check if background app refresh is enabled? In the location settings that the app requests, there should be an 'Always' option, but for some reason, I don’t have that option available.

‘Always’ option is not needed for location based alerts. Background app refresh option is inside General tab.

Thanks!

In the Goodtask settings under the 'General' tab, I can't find the 'Background App Refresh' option.

It’s in the default settings app. Does Reminders app’s notifications work with location based reminders?

Thank you for your help! It turned out that the feature was disabled in the Reminders app. I enabled it, tested it, and now everything works.
