I have used create task in an IOS shortcut. Unfortunately due to what looks like a bug, it doesn’t work correctly within an IF statement. So I am trying to get round that by creating the task first and then amending it if one of the IF conditions is satisfied. However, I can’t see how edit task works. How does it ever know which task you want to edit? If I click on “task” within the edit task command, it says there are no options.

Try long tap Task and choose ‘Select variable’.
Not sure what you want to achieve but using Create task might be more direct way though.
