Since the fundamental of the widget is a process that runs separately from the main app, completing a task needs some time to communicate with the data source.

If completing task through the widget doesn't work well for your gestures, using other actions such as opening the task on main app or opening list can be used. You can set it in Settings > Widget > Task: Action.

For the size, using 'Mode' inside widget settings Default or Full rather than Compact may help a bit.
