Trigger template from a set time in the future or from now

Hi,

I’m trying to use GoodTask Templates for a recurring post-flight recovery routine.

What I’d ideally like is:

I trigger the template when I get on the train home, or even better a set time/date when I’ve worked out what time I’ll arrive home.
That moment becomes the template’s “zero” time.
Tasks then appear at relative times from that point, e.g. Home +30 min, shower +40 min, recovery sleep +1 hour, dinner +7 hours, bed +9 hours.
I can then use the same template after every landing, regardless of the actual landing/home time.

I can see that relative times are supported, but I’m finding that the template doesn’t seem to ask for or clearly establish the start time in the way I expected.

I also noticed the relative-time selector allows minutes within the first hour, then moves to hourly increments.

Is what I’m trying to achieve actually supported? If not, is there a recommended workaround — perhaps using a Shortcut to generate the template from the current time?

If the recommended solution is essentially to use a Shortcut to create the tasks with relative times, I’m struggling to understand what advantage the Template feature provides for this type of routine.

Thanks as always for your time
Mike

Thanks for the feedback. You can simply make tasks with relative time on the template and as you make tasks with that template, it’ll calculate from current time. It should just work as you expect. Thanks!

Thank you  I was setting time for first task and though the subsequent tasks would be relative to that.

So no way to be ahead of the game and trigger the template to start from a point in the future using a shortcut? Ie I know my train is leaving tomorrrow at 0930, trigger template to start from then?
Even better would be an automation that new when I got home after a work calendar event.

For now I think my workaround for the day before trigger would be, run the template then use bulk actions to re time the tasks based on the train time. I just like being efficient and using the power of GT to the max

You can use Shortcuts if you want. Creating task through Shortcut action is flexible enough and if you use some functions in the Shortcuts app to make the due date related to some selected time, you should be able to achieve it.

Currently using templates inside the app through long tap can let the start date set according to the selected date. To use the time, go to day view and long tap on the top time bar and it can be done although it could be a bit hard to get the exact time. I’m planning to add some other views to make this a bit easier in future updates.

Thanks!

Thank you as always for your quick replies and excellent support.

I cannot see a run template in shortcuts, is that an easy add or just a limit of the app?

I would have to schedule all the tasks and set relative times as you say.

Thank you for the tip about setting time via long press on the day view timeline, sadly it isn’t accurate enough, so I look forward to you view updates

There isn’t a way to add via templates on Shortcuts action. I’ll keep it on the list to consider. Thanks!
